What juice is
Juice is the margin a book builds into its own odds. Turn every odd into an implied probability and add them up: with no margin the sum would be 100%, because one of the outcomes is going to happen. It always comes out higher — and whatever goes past 100% is the juice.
Payout is the other side of the same sum: the share of every unit staked that goes back to bettors as a group. That is why two books with similar-looking odds can charge very different prices, and comparing juice is the fastest way to see where you are paying more to back the same thing.
Every odd has to come from the same market and the same book. Mixing books produces a number that is nobody's margin — and neither the calculator nor a spreadsheet can warn you.
A worked example
A football match with three outcomes, priced at a single book: 2.10, 3.40 and 3.55.
| Odd | Implied |
|---|---|
| 2.10 | 47.62% |
| 3.40 | 29.41% |
| 3.55 | 28.17% |
| Total | 105.20% |
Juice 5.20% · bookmaker payout 95.06%.
How to use it
Pick the line
A market with every outcome priced: 1 and 2 in tennis, 1, X and 2 in football. The calculator goes from 2 to 10 odds.
Copy the odds from one book
All from the same market, all from the same book. It is that book's margin being measured.
Read the juice and the payout
Juice is what the book charges; payout is what is left. Each odd's implied probability sits alongside, so you can see where the figure comes from.
Negative juice is a surebet
When the implied probabilities add up to less than 100%, the juice comes back negative. That is not an error: it means those odds cover every outcome for less than they pay back.
Below 100%, the calculation indicates a mathematical coverage possibility. You can inspect that scenario in the arbitrage calculator using the same odds, without any guarantee of execution or profit.

Surebet calculatorWhat the calculator does not solve
It measures the price, it does not pick the bet. Low juice says the book charges little on that line, not that any outcome holds value — for that you need an estimate of the real probability, which is a different calculation. And the margin changes from line to line inside the same book: measuring one says nothing about the next.
Knowing the price is the start
Stake Mate Pro is a value calculator: it reads the odds, estimates the fair odd, measures edge and EV+, and suggests exposure through the Kelly Criterion. This juice calculator stays free and sign-up free.
Bet responsibly
Low juice is no guarantee of profit: the book still has the edge on most lines. Only stake what you can afford to lose, and never money you need. Not for anyone under 18.
